"We can't charge people for an inferior product, even if it DOES work, we need proof of testing."
Amanda knew that this meant a few things could be done: clones, corpses, or lies. She knew it was wrong to lie.
The Baltimore lab was cold today, a few windows propped open in reception.
"Okay so which are we going to test?"
"Pills, balms, and the LED implants."
Amanda was already gathering the supplies for pills as Jonathan asked. He had been in receiving all morning to prep the ten cadavers and check progress on the farmed scalp clones.
"Did you bring the clippers?" Jonathan asked, just as Amanda was unloading her bay of chemical prototypes.
"Yea, hold on, who is shaving their head though?"
The two of them both had hair to their mid-backs, having taken their own hair growth serums the night before. No matter how easy it was to grow their hair overnight, Amanda was still attached to those long locks, and reluctant to shave.
They needed long hair to best represent the before and afters of the product that they were had synthesized. Grow it, shave it, apply test, record results.
Now came step two, and they realized that they both needed to shave their heads for consistency's sake. Jonathan went first. Now bald, it was time for lunch. They gave the clone scalps a final fertilization and ate their food loafs in silence.
Deborah, the receptionist, brought to them a couple parcels and some plasticwork to be signed from the mail-in lawyers.
After this, the real fun began.
----
I didn't expect it to burn as much as Amanda applied the balm to my shaved head, ironically named balm of course. I believe that she knew this was going to happen. It was people like her that made me see why animal testing was so expensive. After my painful hour-long processing time, we cleaned my scalp, toned with a PH balance, and as blisters subsided, she applied the growth serum. Not much better of a sensation.
Amanda's turn, she put it off though, and we worked on the cadavers and deadstock scalps separately. She kept looking my way, staring until I caught her gaze, when she would look away. What was my new inch-length hair looking like? I batted around the concept of a sexual relationship with her, but then again, delirium was a known side-effect of this balm. So close to the brain. The prototype I was using called for a blue hue, which would be easiest to discern from blood and other bodily fluids.
----
Jonathan looked terrible, somehow the balm was bleeding into his fleshy forehead via capillary action. While his hair and blisters alike were turning blue, his face was turning a deep purple-brown, like flue mixing with his natural pigment.
I decided to put off my own test until the next morning, to allow time to tweak this formula. I could even get it done before morning to try it out on my own. No use in having to share patent rights. There was something under my sleeve, anyway.
Journal Entry No. 978 <20:14 - 08 - 62 - 2091 - Voice>
This has to work, I can't fucking stand my hair being this shitty. Boring, really boring.
<silence for 00:45:22>
I just want this one thing to go in my favor. I don't even care if anyone else can use it.
<audio erased>
It needs to be long and bright and reflect who I am. I am not dirty blonde. I am not brown. I am not black. I am a rainbow of transcendence. All these dyes are too temporary.
<silence for 00:04:21>
After this wine I'm trying the injection. One more glass.
<end recording at 03:14 - 08 - 63 - 2091>

What a pain, I need to take note of the following adverse effects of injection no. 05:
Manic depression
Paranoia
Loss of memory
Hypertension
Diereses
Hair growth
Great color
Shine
Lustre

It's worked... It's worked! I've done it! I've been waiting for this for so long... Jonathan called at some point.
----
Amanda hasn't shown up for a few days now, but Deborah says that was expected from such a busy woman. Then again, Deborah and I were both new. Both single, too.
----
Amanda was found in her flat, deceased. Cause of death said to be asphyxiation on foreign biological matter. They describe her state as being peaceful, with great hair.
