Prison RT Shores

"Run!"

That is all I could think of when the police changed their focus from my friend to me. In slow motion, I ran...

The gravel of the parking lot was not conducive to a good run, but run I did. I was scared to death. They grabbed me quickly and then I fought. Hell, they were giant men and I was a little girl. Handcuffs were cold and bit into me and I decided that fighting was over.

I was in the back of the police car with my friend and he thanked me. I smiled, but I am sure all he saw was greatly dilated pupils and fear. The ride was fast and we were soon underneath the downtown jail.

Hauled out of the car, unceremoniously, I tried to stay on my feet.

"Book her!" Barked one cop to someone at the check in desk.

"This kid? Whad she do?"

"Disorderly conduct!"

My first stop was fingerprinting, then full body search... disgusting. The shower was even worse with some medicinal shampoo and then a jail dress. I was shivering from cold and fear as the matron led me down a hallway in the new jail. It seemed empty to me, but then the catcalls began.

"Bring her here! Fresh meat! Oh look, a baby!" I groaned and wondered if I would make it through the night.

Another matron ran up to the first and whispered in her ear as she appraised me. My matron nodded.

"Seems you have friends in high places, missy!  Come on!" She opened a single cell and I walked in. I jumped when the door slammed shut.

She then shoved a blanket through the bars. "Part of you is cold and part is Adrenaline. Wrap and up and you will be out in the morning by my reckoning."

I wrapped up and was surprised that the next thing I knew, it was morning and I was being released.  There would be no prison for me!

I figured my mother would kill me, but she was the one who bailed me out and asked if I was okay and then we went out to breakfast.

Sometimes we make prisons out of something that doesn't really exist, but in our minds.
